Meridian Charter Township is located in Ingham County, Michigan, and it’s the third-largest municipality in the Lansing-East Lansing metropolitan area. Settled in 1836 and organized in 1842, Meridian Charter Township today covers more than 30 square miles of land, home to a population of roughly 42,000 people.
Meridian Township gets its name from the Michigan Meridian, which forms the township’s eastern border. All townships were surveyed and measured from this prime north-south survey line. Meridian Township today includes the unincorporated communities of Okemos and Haslett. The Friends of Historic Meridian is a local organization that holds an archive of past information, while also maintaining old buildings in the Meridian Historical Village.
